Why would anyone think it’s okay to ban sex toys?

Some states such as Alabama are keeping bans on sex toys going.

Shouldn’t the government be spending our taxes on something more pressing than the nine-year fight over the personal gratifiction of adults? That, and shouldn’t they leave us alone in our own homes and bedrooms to do as we please? Are we, as adults, unable to decide what is and what isn’t healthy for our own well-being?

(I just had to ask this one, it seemed like too odd a story to pass up…I’m not trying to offend anyone, but I am amazed that this should even be an issue nowadays!)
Sidenote: I don’t use them either.

However, I think it wrong to use our taxes in making laws that punish individuals for their own personal preferences. It’s punishing a consenting adult for…being a consenting adult. It would be like spending thousands $$$ and years on trying to ban a certain kind of socks because someone somewhere doesn’t like them.

And in South Carolina: “Republican Rep. Ralph Davenport proposed a bill that would make it a felony to sell ‘devices used primarily for sexual stimulation’ and allow the cops to confiscate sex toys from raided businesses.”

So it is a ban on vibrators and all other sex toys. I can’t believe they’re wasting our taxes on these laws insttead of, say, regulating guns?
Aussie, sounds like you prefer laws to regulate your personal life? What if someone made a law that caused condoms to be illegal? Then what?

I don’t care, I don’t use them. The only con to banning sex toys is less money to the government, in my opinion.

What do you mean by “sex toys” exactly? A strap on penis?

If you buy sex toys and actually use them, you’re a pervert. You don’t need to be sticking a plastic penis into your husbands anus.

I do think banning vibrators might be going a little too far, but maybe politicians are just tired of perverts having sexual relations with inanimate objects.

Sex toys serve no purpose, condoms do. They prevent people from catching STDs and getting pregnant while having intercourse, most of the time.

OMG! I can’t believe it’s illegal to have sex toys in a Western Democracy in 2008! It sounds like an Islamic Taliban is in charge in Alabama. I reckon this is a good question for the Religion and Spirituality section.
Surely what people do with their own bodies in private has nothing to do with a balding middle-aged politician who’s more than likely poking his secretary! I really am Gob-Smacked!
Bet you can go and buy a big gun though, you’d most likely get a longer sentence for holding up a bank with a vibrator instead of a pistol. Boy, you yanks are crazy, how did you ever get a man on the Moon?

‘Cause they’re a bunch of prudes who think that passing these kinds of laws will raise their popularity among the “religious” and prude bunch who attend their rallies and who will vote for them in the next elections.

Thats what happens in parts of the world that are governed by religion.

All hail the moral police. (Yes, its sarcasm)

It is easier to regulate sexual behavior between adults than more pressing issues. By the way, alot of couples, straight and gay, use sex toys during foreplay.
