The lubricant that will do the least damage to your rubik’s cube is silicon. If you don’t have silicon, then get some. I’d say if you absolutely CANNOT get it (it’s like 3 bucks at walmart in the automotives section) then here are a few things that can work:

1) Some scar remedies can lubricate it well because they actually have silicon in it.
2) If you cannot lubricate it, then clean it out. Scrub it with a cloth and hot water. It can do wonders.
3) Using hand sanitizer can can make it really smooth because it makes it VERY clean.
4) This is if you are desperate…. use cooking oil… don’t try this unless nothing else helps.

If its plastic, which most rubiks cube are made of, its dumb to use WD40 on them as this will “decompose” the plastic parts of the rubiks cube in no time. Vegetable oil will be nice, or if you have some milder mineral oil (like those that you can use on your skin).

Take off one of the cubes (the do detach, just pull it or get a knife to lever it out with) and spray the inside of the rubiks cube with WD40. Replace the small cube you took out and attack it back to the rubiks.

I use Petroleum Jelly. Just start by popping off a corner, take all the pieces off and lubricate. Make sure it is solved first, and that you know where each piece is!
