My 14 yo son bought a sex toy, and got away with it. He purchased it with paypal and received it. He doesn’t know that I know.

Should I take it away from him or let him keep it?
He uses PayPal to sell stuff on eBay and I let him. paypal has a feature to generate a credit card to use online. that’s how he got it.

    You should
    talk about it
    with him first

My opinion is this is normal and a good opportunity to chat about sex and his changing body. He probably doesn’t really have a clue how to use it or what it is about. As tough as this might be to swallow all our kids will get to this place and honestly I rather have my son use a “toy” that cannot transmit STDs or get pregnant. However, I also would want to sit down and talk. It does too things, makes him feel safe with you for future events, and lets him know that despite his age you still know what is going on with him and want to be involved.

talk about it with him. tell him that you know. ask him why he bought it. remind him that it is not good to have sex before you’re married. take it away from him until he thinks about what he did. don’t punish him. he’s going through changes.

are you even allowed to use PayPal at 14 years old? Much less buy sex toys – I’m sure you have to be 18.

Otherwise, I’d maybe leave it out on his bed in plain view for him to see when he comes home. Or nail it to the headboard. LOL That might precipitate a much needed parent/child ‘chat.’

ETA: ANd don’t assume that just because of his age he doesn’t know how to use it, OR that he isn’t having sex … he could have easily purchased it with someone else in mind! Kids know more now (both good and bad) than we give them credit for, unfortunately…

By letting him use eBay, you are violating the rules – he must be 18 in order to do so. So of course ‘he got away with it,’ you basically let him.

14yr old boys beat it like every chance they get, don’t you know that? they think nobody knows, so i say bring it up, embarrass the eell out of him.in 20yrs maybe you can all sit around and have a good laugh about it.

I think that’s a legal question – I don’t know that it’s legal for a 14 year old to have a paypal account; if it’s an account under your name, then you have the right to do whatever you want. In all reality, you have the right to do whatever you want anyway – he’s a minor and you are his parent. Also, I’m not sure that it’s legal for someone to sell a sex toy to someone under the age of 18. I’d check into those things. After that, I suppose it’s whatever you’re comfortable with. If you don’t care that he has it, then it’s a moot issue. If you do care or it does bother you, then you’re the parent. Step in. Talk to him about it. Honesty and open communication will never hurt your relationship with your son. If he feels that he can be sneaky and get away with things and/or that you’ll never talk to him about something that’s uncomfortable, you’re in for a LOOOOOONG adolescence period. Good luck!

if he bought it with his own money then no. masturbation is normal and healthy. It’s better than him going out and having sex or getting a girl pregnant.

Well that depends. Did he buy it with your money? I honestly don’t see a problem with it. I mean, most 14 year old boys masturbate. I bought my first sex toy when i was 16. It’s a lot better (and healthier) for him to have a fun sex toy than to go out and have unprotected sex. Both for him and the girl. If you feel that strongly about it, sit him down and talk to him about it. If not, let it go. It’s not like it’s taking over his life, right?………..right? If he starts doing nothing but masturbate all day long with his sex toy, then please! Take evasive action! But other wise, no, I wouldn’t do anything. It’s normal and healthy.
